Achieving development is one of the main concerns of developing countries and one of their demands from the international community. One of the organizations dedicated to this objective is the International Monetary Fund (IMF). This organization works toward achieving sustainable growth and prosperity for all countries. The aim of this study is to examine and explain the role and function of the IMF in achieving sustainable development goals. The research uses descriptive, analytical, and comparative methods to answer the question of how the IMF contributes to the realization of sustainable development goals and the scope of its involvement in this regard. The findings of the study indicate that the IMF’s focus on goals such as growth and sustainable welfare places its role and function within the framework of organizations aligned with sustainable development objectives. The IMF’s functions in achieving sustainable development goals are limited to specific areas. Together with the World Bank, the IMF holds a unique position in the global community because it can directly influence the political environment of developing countries.
